Frequently asked questions
-
Where are your lessons held?I have created a great classroom environment in a newly-built annex in my garden. The space is warm, light and welcoming. I live in-between Goudhurst and Horsmonden (TN12 8), approximately a ten-minute drive from Cranbrook.

Which areas of learning are taught? For the Year 4 and Year 5 children preparing for the 11+ Kent Test, I teach: Maths - number, geometry (2D and 3D shapes, angles, perimeter, area, volume), fractions, percentages, decimals, BIDMAS, time, measurement, data handling, symmetry, co-ordinates, algebra, multi-step problems; English - reading comprehension, word classes, grammar, spelling and punctuation; Verbal - the skill of identifying and applying a pattern or relationship between symbols (letters and numbers) and words; Non-verbal reasoning - solving problems presented in diagrams and pictures by analysing visual information; Spatial reasoning - manipulating 2D and 3D shapes in your head.
-
Do you offer online lessons?I prefer to teach in person. I believe face-to-face teaching garners better results. However, I can offer occasional online lessons for individual students if the need arises.
-
How much homework is there? At the end of each lesson, I will set up to 30 minutes homework for Year 4 children and up to 1 hour of homework for Year 5 children. For Year 5 children, their homework will mostly consist of GL 11+ practice assessment papers across the four exam areas (English, maths, verbal reasoning, non-verbal/spatial reasoning).

How is payment made?Lessons are invoiced in half-termly blocks, paid in advance. I email the invoice the week before the new half term begins which includes account information for online transfer.
